Track by Track Review

The Raven dotdotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

"The Raven" is a complete remake of Pollo Del Mar's "Annabelle Lee." Great liquid reverb moves it to a new height. What Frankie and the Pool Boys do with it is magical and divinely splashy!

Tsunami Struck dotdotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

The Surf Coasters' "Tsunami Struck" gets a bright face on as Frankie and the Pool Boys do the honors. The Surf Coasters' drummer Naotake Seki is on drums, so you can imagine how cool it is! Karen Dobronyi's organ adds a surreal lounge edge to this surf monster.

Teke, Teke, Teke dotdotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

This just rips with joy! I wanted to give it another star, but alas there are only five. "Teke, Teke, Teke" is all surf! Muted reverb lead and second guitars are simply joyous! Nao's drums are superb! Tony's perfect bass line rocks the bottom line, and Karen's keys add depth. Glorious dribbling glissandos! This is simply the best!

Dead Man Surfin' dotdotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

"Dead Man Surfin'" opens with funeral keys and a deadly call for dead man surfin'. A superb melody line, heavy chunk, and wonderful glissandos. The bass and drums make this tuff. Totally excellent!

Johnny Fool dotdotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

"Johnny Fool" is Pollo Del Mar's "Johnny Foo, Ninja Chiropractor" translated into one happy surf adventure. Powerful and fun, with cool keys and water everywhere.

Dreams dotdotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

The Surf Coasters' epic "Dreams" is very dramatic. Danny plays acoustic Fender, and the band celebrates on a flight of fancy. Every line in the arrangement is cool, from Tony's fuzz bass to Karen's swirling keys. being by absolute favorite Surf Coasters song doesn't hurt either.

No Surf Today dotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Danny's acoustic launches "No Surf Today." It's "Endless Summer" imagery is reinforced by Karen's melodica. This thoroughly a romantic track.

Amber Waves dotdotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Big echo splash and drama abound. "Amber Waves" is an infectious song with lots going for it. This is hard not to like, from its small combo feel to its surf slash.

Ewa On The Beach dotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

"Ewa On The Beach" has an island lead guitar that's all slippery and Hawaiianesq. The keys play a splendid European flavored duet with the guitars. The arrangement is quite different from the album version.

Finito Bandito dotdotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Whammified spaghetti western guitars swim above a galloping beat and rhythm. The epic charm and spunk of "Finito Bandito" is unbeatable. Big grins here!

A Man Called Dirt dotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

A deluxe, undulating rhythm and beat carry this melodic song well. The melody is strong and on the spaghetti western side of the street. Way cool!

Run Ripely Run dotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Liberated from The TomorrowMen, and named from Danny's dog, "Run Ripely Run" is a frolic in the fields with only the wind resisting the joy. Dribble double picked guitar and great drums!

Ice Station Echo dotdotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Long sweeping echoed sustain creates intense drama and a psychedelic flair. It's tribal and lush. The rich double picked guitars dribble in liquid glory. If surf is art, it's right here! Superb!

Magyara dotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

"Magyara" was brought forward from Pollo Del Mar and adapted to amore traditional surf sound. Mediterranean vacation, California coastline, and big drama.

The Cruel Sea - Surf Party dotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Mike Maxfield's "The Cruel Sea" is done with flair and energy. The keys seem unusually well suited for lead duty on some verses with this song. Really nice! It segues right into Bobby Beverly and William Dunham's soundtrack title score as done by The Astronauts and introduced by Slacktone. It's big and hyper! Together, these tow tracks flow and drive for fun.
