Drifting Sand - S/Tdotdotdotdot
artworkThis CD single contains two versions of Drifting Sand's hilarious song "Surfin' With Britney," plus a Beach Boys cover, a very sophisticated scene piece, and a way cool radio spot for their CD. I don't review surf vocals very often, but when their this much fun, well... it's justified. "Surfin' With Britney" is just the funniest surf vocal in ages. It's done in a serious style, blending California Beach Pop harmonies with teen ballad drama and boys just wanna make nice with Britney lyrics. Amazing!

Surfin With Britney dotdotdotdot
Surf (Vocal)

Opening with a line from "Ode To Starfish In Sea Minor," Drifting Sand launch right into their cheesy peon to Britney Spears. Totally funny lyrics and bouncy music. The structure is a blend of California Pop vocal styles and "(Remember) Walking In the Rain" faux seriousness.

All Summer Long dotdotdot
Surf (Vocal)

Chapping the Beach Boys' butts, Drifting Sand rises from a lush dramatic opening a la Hawkwind's "TV Suicide" with waves lapping the shore into a narrated intro to "All Summer Long." Much too funny, like a serious reading.

Ode To Starfish In Sea Minor dotdotdot
Scenic (Instrumental)

Dramatic emotional piano and keys paint a picture of refined rainy days at the estate, where girls in hoops and bonnets play board games in the parlor waiting for the rain to stop. The fire is warm, and mood is soft.

Surf Disco (Vocal)

The same super silly song punched up for the disco... it's even funnier and cooler, but it requires you to hang up your attitude hat. Extra cool.

Surf Disco (Instrumental)

Wow, this is sooooo commercial! Just more fun than squishing tadpoles with bare feet!
