Phil Dirt - Reverb Central - PO Box 1609, Felton, CA 95018-1609 USA The Drifters - Jet Black c/w Driftin'

 | This is the first intro single for The Drifters just before they changed their handle to The Shadows. It's nothing like their classic sound - guttier and more fanciful I think. Very cool, especially given its 1959 date and studio system origins. |

Tango after dark... "Jet Black" is a fun little number with a goofy rhythm and noodling melody line. A nifty drum break or two, and calls of "jet black" make for exotic pop rock listening. Pretty fun!

A fast romping country beat and a fine tremolo melody line prance along. Verging on western, this trembling charmer is very nice. The calls and screams are unnecessary, but don't detract. Excellent!
