Phil Dirt - Reverb Central - PO Box 1609, Felton, CA 95018-1609 USA Dr. Reverb - Metalizes Dr. Varlot

 | Five blasts from Dutch surf cruncher Dr. Reverb, all written well outside the envelope, reverbed excessively, twanged out, and then pushed into asylum space. Whacked out surf is the only way to describe this. Incidentally, Dr. Varlot (Paris) developed a mummification process based on metalizing the tissue. I know I wanna go that way. |

Track by Track Review
Thick Surf (Instrumental)
Big twang reverbomatic surf, riff dominated and very chunky. Thrashy and splashy. Alternating lines between damped and not, Dr. Reverb's fingers fly around the neck like detached appendages.
Thick Surf (Instrumental)
In suppose "Hating The Washing Up" means staying dirty is fun... The tune is playful and interesting. There's a lot of the Dick Dale tone and the Al Casey big guitar ethic in this track. Somewhat flash and noodle, yet like a big surf chicken bop classic.
Thick Surf (Instrumental)
Thrashy and chorded, chunky and oddly structured, "Space Cake Rock" reminds me a little of a cross between the Torpedoes and the Space Cakes. Dissonant twangage.
Thick Surf (Instrumental)
Thick rock chord surf for the strong hearted. In lieu of the usual melodic flow of surf, "T. T. S." portrays the chaotic chop of a harbor after a tsunami. The calming seas still reflect the carnage that went before.
Thick Surf (Instrumental)
"Polderbilly" is a demented cowboy twangfest romp just outside normal, where the cows are in charge and the cowboys get roped. It may be disturbed, but the tribal drums and excessively reverbed guitar paint a picture that's magnetic and pulsing.
