artworkWhat a line up! Mike Palm - guitar (Agent Orange, Wipe Out), Steve Soest - guitar (Torquays, Dick Dale), Sam Bolle - bass (Agent Orange), and Pete "Mr. Surf Drums" Curry - drums (Halibuts, et al). Two covers done with immense respect and talent, a Steve Soest original, and an instrumentalization of an Agent Orange classic. A great little ep!
Picks: Channel Nine, Twitchin', Sea Knows, Bloodstains

Track by Track Review

Channel Nine dotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Mighty respectful and authentic as Hell! The playing is fluid and the arrangement is quite trad, right down to the Hal Blaine drum licks. What a good version this is!

Twitchin' dotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Steve Soest's original, which he does with his band the Torquays. More twang than the demo version he did in the early nineties. It is melodic, and the performance is spirited and energetic.

Sea Knows dotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

This is the first cover I am aware of of a Surf Coasters song. It is less intense and exquisitely played. This slow sinewy Polynesian twang track is very pretty, and testifies to the writing power of it's originators.

Bloodstains dotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

A surfified version of the Agent Orange classic, with the melody line superimposed over a backtrack that is basically "Surf Beat." A very cool idea, which works very well. Lots of great chunk and twang. Infectious.
