Phil Dirt - Reverb Central - PO Box 1609, Felton, CA 95018-1609 USA The Del-Magnums - Teenagesupersonicsurftrashrocknroll

 | The Del-Magnums CD sports consistently paced hard driving surf instrumentals from a frat perspective. Some of the writing is exceptional, and the performances are good. Its demo sound leaves a lot to be desired, but there's lots of high energy frat surf rage. These folks are likely a very fun band to see live. There are three unlisted tracks at the end, but they have nothing to do with surf music. |

Intro / Catfight In Cell Block 'D'

Surf (Instrumental)
Drum grumbling surf and frat with the girls chanting "Teenage Supersonic Surf Trash Rock 'n' Roll" Quite a bit of groovy surf guitar here, and tons of energy.
Surf (Instrumental)
Raging surf guitar and rumbling bass thunder in an optimistic groove. Infectious and very fun, with rich surf tone and lots of energy.
Surf (Instrumental)
"Getaway Gear Grind" is too fun and full of life. Fiery glissandoes and rolling thunder. The riff is most unusual.
Surf (Instrumental)
"Whitewall" has a sorta sad optimism, and features organ inserted amid the surf. The melody line is very good, infectious as they say.
Surf (Instrumental)
A sorta high school prom rhythm and a dribbling double picked lead melody loosely modeled on "Runaway." Very nice song.
Surf (Instrumental)
An overpowering swirling organ in an otherwise mean surf guitar tune. Plenty of power, just too much keys in the mix.
Surf (Instrumental)
Double picked surf fire and grumbling thunder. Dramatic and kinda frat fired, "3 Beats Down The Road" sports glissandoes and choppy breaks.
Surf (Instrumental)
A rolling tribal beat and rumbling bass grumble under a really nice guitar line. The writing here is excellent. Not exactly catchy in the pop sense, but powerful and very satisfying.
Surf (Instrumental)
Mean and thundering with low-E double picked leads and a fine riff.
Surf (Instrumental)
A merger between "Secret Agent Man," "Bat Man," and "Munsters." Interesting arrangement, but it doesn't hold my interest, especially when the sax comes in.
