Track by Track Review

Tiki Twist dotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

From a dark version of the sort of stylistic flair that "California Sun" exudes, "Tiki Twist" merges the limitless heroism of "Bat Man" and amped glissandos with reverb splash and coolness. It's a track that isn't particularly "twist' stylistically, but is very cool surf.

El Bongo dotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

"El Bongo" is a stomp kind track with a softly fluid melody line and simplicity of construction. It's simply a good listen in a basic surf style.

Center Of The Universe dotdotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Up tempo and full of panoramic surf imagery, coupled with thick whammy chords, "Center Of The Universe" is an epic tale of travel across great expanses in search of the ultimate curl. It's a very cool track!

L'Espion Invisible En Vacances dotdotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Built on a variant of the classic "Pipeline" rhythm pattern, "L'Espion Invisible En Vacances" is an dangerous track with lots of cool stuff happening, from the string swipes to the nerve-splitting lines and muted long slow glissandos. It is dark and threatening, with a wondrous attraction. very cool!

Kalamanawa dotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

"Kalamanawa" is a splendid track with a dark ambiance and moody melody. Sullen and sporting tribal funeral drums, it is simply a superb song and recording. A perfect melody line, tribal percussion, and island mystery.

Tiki Twist dotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

This may be a murky mono live recording, but it conveys the live passion of The Dead Rocks and the durable coolness of "Tiki Twist."

El Bongo dotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Live, "El Bongo" is a trashy stomp assault. Its minimal but fluid melody line is juxtaposed to the gritty delivery.

Center Of The Universe dotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

"Center Of The Universe" is an up-tempo charger that's dramatic and very surf-worthy. The murky sound diminishes the power that lives in this fine piece of music.

L'Espion Invisible en Vacances dotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Employing a darkened variant of the "Pipeline" rhythm pattern, "L'Espion Invisible En Vacances" is dangerous and compelling. Muddy sound aside, it charges hard and delivers relentless surf tension. Wild and gritty.

Kalamanawa dotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

"Kalamanawa" delivers slithery darkness like a minor "Harlem Nocturne" with tribal funeral drums and giant whammy chords. It is a menacing island mystery.

The House Of The Rising Sun dotdotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Jeepers... this is a monster sludge surfadelic reinvention of "The House Of The Rising Sun." It's deep tone and lumbering danger breed a very dangerous image. Psychedelic string tweaking and pick slides remind me of the disturbed hallucinogenic "Little Ollie" (Fender IV). It will take you a while to recognize the melody. Downright scary!
