Track by Track Review
A long introduction from some dark movie (or parody there of) yields to a chunky and dark surf instro with ominous shimmer and a dangerous melody. Moderately paced, with a deliberate feeling, "Psyclope" is a song with a murky mood and great surf dribble.
High Pressure Liquid Chromatography
Fast and relentless, with two guitars dueling for domination in alternate channels. Not melodic, but menacing in a robot world kind of way. Great bass and drums.
While the surf guitar circles, the band dangerously pounds out a warning to all. Relentless and more scene-setting than melodic, "An der Urania" is nonetheless an impressive piece.
Surf Frat (Instrumental)
"Detecto" is an example of the compelling nature of a well turned surf riff. Chunky and rhythmic in a rock 'n' roll sense, almost frat-like in simplicity, yet engaging. Cool electric piano and great bass and drums.
"Taliban Surf" rocks and rips with some influences from the Middle East, but mostly lots of drum fury and bass boldness supporting dark surf guitars. It's a fine and sometimes punishing track. Dangerous and very dark.
Not All Astronauts Are Slim
"Not All Astronauts Are Slim" is a non-melodic power exercise with relentless energy and strong drums and bass. The guitars chop and churn with an angry edge and occasional feedback.
The title makes you salivate, doesn't it? A circulating riff and lots of energy pound out a nearly rockabilly thrasher.
A fine and memorable melody and a wonderful galloping rhythm combine to create a sparkling cowboy surf epic. Infectious, very spunky, and lots of fun. "Cowgirls and Cactus" brings a smile to your mug.
Daytona Super Royal Rumble
Dark and heavy double picked lead guitar, dry chop chords, and thundering bass and drums. "Daytona Super Royal Rumble" is mostly about power, but it's not without melody and charm in a dark and heavy sort of way.
Slow and lumbering, with a moody throb and gutty fuzz. Definitely ominous and dramatic. "Even The Zombies Cry" lies somewhere between surf and biker fuzz. Thoroughly cool!
It's Too Heavy To Be Lifted (Call Mama)
Like a sped up version of mid sixties R&B instros, "It's Too Heavy To Be Lifted (Call Mama)" swirls and charges ahead with a circular riff and intense energy. Great drums and bass, and fun guitar and keyboard work.
Heavy feedback and psychedelic swirls and active panning, coupled with psycho-acoustic de-toning of the drums create a vision of what might have happened if Anthem Of The Sun era Grateful Dead had kept up the psychedelic swirl and not moved into country. A wonderful adventure in dangerous dreams.
