Collection: Think Link! Volume 2dotdotdot
artworkVolume 2 continues the nod to Mr. Wray with 8 more tracks by as many bands, all written and originally recorded by Link himself. Yeow. I'd like to see both volumes of this series coupled for a CD release!
Picks: Jack The Ripper, Black Widow, Raw-Hide, The Sweeper, Run Chicken Run, The Shadow Knows, The Outlaw, Vendetta

Track by Track Review

Jack The Ripper dotdotdotdot
Rock (Instrumental)

The Galaxy Trio open this set with "Jack The Ripper" done as well as any cover I've heard. It's very edgy, VERY tasty, has lots of flair, and an incredibly ominous feel. Nice job, guys!

Black Widow dotdot
Rock (Instrumental)

The Cowslingers do a big guitar version of "Black Widow" that is not particularly unique or great.

Raw-Hide dotdotdot
Rock (Instrumental)

Be pummeled by their signature big fuzz raw Link grind and a ploppy bass, and big raw energy. It ain't surf, but it rips the hide right off of your feet anyway!

The Sweeper dotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Last on side one is a great band, the Volcanos. Everything they've done has gotten me going. Huge surf sound! They do "The Sweeper" like their life depends on it.

Run Chicken Run dotdot
Rock (Instrumental)

Majorly compressed fuzz over distorted bass in an unremarkable "Run Chicken Run."

The Shadow Knows dotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Tinkling piano spices up an otherwise uninteresting version of "The Shadow Knows." Ancient sounding, but too unchanging.

The Outlaw dotdotdotdot
Cowboy Surf (Instrumental)

A fine band doing a cowboy trad thing with warm surf reverb and a two-step beat. It's way fun, and the melody is very friendly. I like the feel of this. It's infectious. The frequent reverb kicks in lieu of gunshots is a brilliant cross pollination of saddles and longboards.

Vendetta dotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Closing out the set is easily the best track Impala have recorded to date. Up to now, they've been less impressive each time, but this is a great track. "Vendetta" is full of vibrato and eerie long flowing notes and chords.
