Phil Dirt - Reverb Central - PO Box 1609, Felton, CA 95018-1609 USA Collection: Texas Independent Musicians Compilation 2007

 | This comp includes three instros, two of which fit in the surf genre and merit your attention. Thanks to Ted James for sending this along. I do have one question. Why is Mister Neutron, a New Jersey band, on a Texas Musician comp, and in the lead position at that? |
Picks: Mister Neutron - Submariner, The Nematoads - Capoburro, The Oranglers - Badlands
Track by Track Review
Mister Neutron - Submariner

Surf (Instrumental)
This is a fast romping number with cool glissandos and flying Spanish surf guitars. More moody than ,melodic, "Submariner" races across a cactus plain, or perhaps under the sea as suggested by the title. Big energy.
The Nematoads - Capoburro

Surf (Instrumental)
A groovy guitar line with a touch of the Middle East and dark desert surf gives "Capoburro" a unique sound. It's a catchy number in a sophisticated way. Howling and rotating, it is big and very cool!
Rock (Instrumental)
"Badlands" is a lumbering number that seems not to have a direction. It relies heavily on its relentless edge and intensity, which does work in some ways.
