Phil Dirt - Reverb Central - PO Box 1609, Felton, CA 95018-1609 USA Collection: Terrore dello Spazio featuring Stronzo Gelantino And The Boo-Men And The Sidemen

 | Two great bands which are fairly illusive outside Europe split this seven inch release, and they are very well matched in prowess, and very different in approach. This is a highly original surf ep with roots in traditional sound, but with writing and arranging squarely in the modern surf sound. Terrore dello Spazio is highly recommended! |
Picks: Stronzo Gelantino and the Boo-Men - Boo-Men-Theme, Do The Demare, The Sidemen - Sidemen Theme, Volo No. 1062

Stronzo Gelantino and the Boo-Men - Boo-Men-Theme

Surf (Instrumental)
With great pomp, "Boo-Men-Theme" launches into an amazing double picked dribbling gypsy maze of reverb and primal stomp. In some ways, it takes some getting used to, but soon enough, you're hooked. Great lead guitar playing, and the rhythm is no slouch either, and once the reverb crashes commence, well... and the drums and bass are so primal. Very cool!
Stronzo Gelantino and the Boo-Men - Do The Demare

Surf (Instrumental)
the tribal stomp beat and bass of "Do The Demare" are countered by superb surf chords and hot blooded melody lines. While totally original, there's an old world familiarity that's quite compelling. As it fades slowly out, you're left with the feeling it will be back soon. Very cool track.
The Sidemen - Sidemen Theme

Surf (Instrumental)
"Sidemen Theme" has an infectious rhythmic structure, a near ska pulled chord rhythm, pumping bass, and great drums. The arrangement is finely tuned, with all instruments working very well in their own spaces. Very strong track!
The Sidemen - Volo No. 1062

Surf (Instrumental)
On the spooky spy side, "Volo No. 1062" sports rich surf tone and superb playing. "The Victor" and "James Bond" are hinted at in places, and those elements combine for a very well written and fully developed song. Wonderful.
