This bootleg release is almost entirely from Davie Allan material, and not from tapes, but from vinyl. Neither Davie nor anyone else involved has been paid or asked. To mask the sources, made up names and titles are employed. It's entirely mono, even though some of this has been issued in readily available form in stereo and from cleaner sources. There are some Davie Allan tracks here that have not been reissued on CD, so it ends up being worth getting. LBI is Long Beach Island, New Jersey, or so it claims. Picks: Davie Allan 'War Path', Davie Allan and the Arrows 'Another Cycle In Detroit', 'Blue's Trip', 'Born Losers' Theme', 'Coral Below', 'Cycle-Delic', 'Devil's Angels', 'Grog's Hog', 'Mind Transferal', 'Skaterdater Rock', 'The 13th Harley', 'The Checkered Flag', 'The Fountain', 'The Hard Ride', 'The Stomper's Party Theme', 'Theme From The Unknown', 'Theme From Thunderball', 'Victorville', The Electric Surf Company 'Surf Club Freakout', The Hi-Tides 'Mondo Beach Party', The Surf-Mates 'Drag Race on Route 72' |

This is simply the most amazing psych instro ever recorded, with the first time recording of Davie screaming into the guitar pickups. This song is so strong, the break alone was the basis for Missing Link, where Davie also employs the screaming trick. This screams out with twisted visionary noise, and creates chills on your spine. Utterly fantastic!
Listed as Davy Arrow and the Allens "Surf-a-Delic."
Psychedelic Biker Fuzz Instrumental Mono

I don't know who this really is, but it's in the general Arrows' vein with added cheesy console organ. While quite fuzzy, it sounds like a studio thing. Repetitious and B-side like, with less flair on guitar than Davie usually delivered.
Psychedelic Fuzz Rock Instrumental Mono

Slowdance romantic melody, shimmering reverbed guitar, and semi dramatic drum fills. Dry click second guitar (instead of damped reverbed), but otherwise a typical surf structure. The drum cadence is not surf. The track evokes images of moonlit beach scenes with a pair of lovers dancing. Davie says this is the first tune he ever wrote. From the soundtrack of Skaterdater.
Listed as the Sand Crabs "Surf City Sunset."
Surf Instrumental Mono

One of several versions of Davie's great theme from the film Skaterdater, this is fluid and fuzzy, and very cool. Totally fuzzified, this was Davie's initial crossing into maximum fuzz, and it's very cool. Raspy, dirty, grodie, and very fun. The back track is the same as "Skaterdater II."
Listed as the Beachcombers "Barnegat Rock."
Surf Instrumental Mono

Big production low grind fuzz, moderately interesting melody, revved up by extra distortion. The track is truncated at the beginning.
Listed as Thee Wild Surfaris "Theme From Surftime On LBI."
Biker Fuzz Instrumental Mono

From The Wild Racers, this is a fluid tune Davie has used many times under many different titles. At just over a minute long, this rages as vintage Davie Allan must, with a solid melody and ultra fuzz.
Listed as the Allens "Beach Party."
Biker Fuzz Instrumental Mono

Cool funky drums, bongos and bass, major fuzz guitar playing in tandem with the bass, and some noodling over the top, make for an ominous track.
Biker Fuzz Instrumental Mono

Inspired by "Moon Dawg" (the Gamblers), this intense number uses piano and guitar in a similar way. It's less melodic, but also a perfect foundation under a film scene. Raging piano and pounding drums.
Listed as the Moonfires "Moonfire."
Biker Fuzz Instrumental Mono

I don't know what this is, but it's a psych period instro in a B-side vein... a rambling jam session with a bit of reverb and a Fillmore vibe. Much more rhythm and ambiance than melody and song.
Psychedelic Rock Instrumental Mono

Very fuzzy Davie Allan-ish... from the guitar and the melody to the bass lines. Whether it's Davie or not is debatable, but it's certainly patterned after him if it's not. The guitar playing is a little less fluid, so it's questionable. A psychedelic heavy riff rock sound.
Psychedelic Fuzz Rock Instrumental Mono

"The Hard Ride" is the title theme from the film of the same name. Heavy sludge fuzz, thundering bikes and dark means to a questionable end. The grumbling beat is somewhat tribal and dangerous, while the guitar riff is both ominous and optimistic - a curious mix of messages. A cool track for sure.
Listed as the Sounds Of Surf "Hangover."
Biker Fuzz Instrumental Mono

From The Hard Ride soundtrack, "Victorville" is a slow sad tune with vibrato and fuzz, and probably the surfiest thing here. Fluid and moody, drifting with eerie tones over a piano and bass. Excellent.
Listed as the Sea Weeds "Quiet Sea."
Biker Fuzz Instrumental Mono

From Davie Allan's album of the same name, this is a spy epic of watery proportions. Slightly psychedelic, reverby, and eerie.
Listed as Davy Arrow "Thunderball."
Biker Fuzz Instrumental Mono

This is one of the grodier versions of this tune. Davie's done it under multiple names. The heavy delay/reverb on the whole track leaves it feeling evil and grimy. During the eighties, Davie played it as "Outer Surf."
Listed as the Lifeguards "Night Theme."
Biker Fuzz Instrumental Mono

From the biker flick The Glory Stompers, this punky theme fuzzes and grinds in a relentless playful party mood. Later retitled "Polyurethane." Psycho and totally cool!
Listed as the Beach Haven Four "Bayside Bash."
Biker Fuzz Instrumental Mono

This fine surf instrumental is reverby and melodic, fluid and typically Davie Allan mid sixties surf. The melody hints at Jackie DeShannon's writing style ("When You Walk In the Room") in places, but also drips Davie. Great track.
Listed as the She-Shells "Lonely Beach."
Biker Fuzz Instrumental Mono

It is an Indian styled surf tune of unusual brilliance. It has a great melody, and a great sound. A totally infectious single! The first of four versions of this tune, this being pretty dry, with nice string bending, and great damped picking transitions. I find this to be one of Davie's prettiest tunes, and this version is very nice.
Listed as the Surf Gang "Tiki Torch."
Surf Instrumental Mono

A little like the Larry Williams' "Slow Down," this track is sporty and very fuzzy, with a simple progression melody, and a choppy transition, plus a wah-wah break that's right out of 1967.
Listed as the Angry C's "Blue Surf."
Biker Fuzz Instrumental Mono

This bluesy sad biker anthem flows and floats on a sea of oily chains and dirty leathers. A great melody riff and a moody sound. From the Cycle-Delic Sounds Of Davie Allan and the Arrows album.
Listed as the Beach Patrol "The 13th Wave."
Biker Fuzz Instrumental Mono

A motorcycle engine throttles up, then in slams Davie Allan's big fuzz monster guitar, delivering a melodic grindy tune. It's heavy and yet sports a light melody line for a cool contradiction.
Listed as Johnny Wayne "Surfin' Cycle."
Biker Fuzz Instrumental Mono

More motorcycle engines, more melodic Davie Allan fuzz, and twin guitars at that. It's more melodic and less dangerous than "Blue's Theme," but just as interesting. Big grinding biker fuzz, and featuring some of Davie's tortured note bending.
Listed as the Surf Angles "Surf Angels Theme."
Biker Fuzz Instrumental Mono

The track opens into a "Pipeline" backtrack and a surfy psychedelic guitar, with the drums backwards. Really cool nutso psych. Rhythmic and bizarre. I love it, especially Davie's totally intense guitar.
Listed as the Typhoons "Hurricane."
