Split: Squid Nachosdotdotdotdot
artworkAustin's Chicken Ranch Records squished together two very different instro bands for this split single. Home boys Squid Vicious are diverse in and of themselves, giving us an edgy live number and a very artful progressive surf seascape. Los Nachos are more surfy and from way over in merry old England.
Picks: Los Nachos - Neuf a la Banque, Burro Loco Fandango, Squid Vicious - Armadillo Races, Hombrecito

Los Nachos - Neuf a la Banque dotdotdotdot
Big Guitar Surf Rock (Instrumental)

Loungy scratchy intro mung had me worried, but suddenly it yielded to some real surfage. The cool riff carries this nicely reverbed guitar lead over dry rhythm chords. The middle part is slower and softer with Polynesian visions.

Los Nachos - Burro Loco Fandango dotdotdot
Polynesian Surf Rock (Instrumental)

Chorded big sound with a rock feel and whammy too. Quite a fifties instro sound, guitar wise, over highly compressed and 'verbed drums. Some part are very disjointed, leaving you wondering if you're really there. Edgy and irritating in a come-hither way.

Squid Vicious - Armadillo Races dotdotdot
Edgie Southwest Rock (Instrumental)

Crude live tape from Austin's Hole In The Wall June 28, '96. The tune is a progression that's a bit repetitious, but the energetic performance by guitar thrashers Ted James and Tony Cooke carries the day.

Progressive Jazz Surf (Instrumental)

A very tasty number with a mysterious feel to it. The progressive jazz bass intro leads into very nice guitar work that projects a mystic island Latin atmosphere in a slow moody structure. Very nice, Teddy boy!
