![]() | This east coast compilation contains a fine assortment of bands covering sixties material. Among the tracks is the first-ever release from the Smithereens, in their aggressive edgie best style. They cover the spaghetti western classic "Hang 'Em High" as "Hang Ten High," a song that would remain in their sets throughout the eighties. The smithereens may have been a mighty edgie band, but their love and respect for surf instros showed in this track, as well as "Mr. Eliminator" (Dick Dale) and "Stoked" (the Beach Boys), which were also regular tunes in their shows. They occasionally played LA as the Surfin' Smithereens. None of the other bands on this disc amounted to anything, but their tracks are solid and enjoyable sixties pop-n-roll. |
