Track by Track Review

Talking To Trees dotdotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Fluid misty morning redwood grove surf, with a very pretty melody and lots of style. There's a classic feel to the melody line, almost like some of the Sandals early material. This is an excellent track, no doubt about it.

First Wave dotdotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Dana Vincent's "First Wave" has been in their set forever... it's about time it got the perfect studio treatment. The rolling second guitar lines are so very cool under this sparkling melody. It's forward looking with a rear view reverence.

Wonderful Land dotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

I've never really liked this song much, though Shadows aficionados seem to cherish it. Then, the Mach IV brought life to it, and suddenly I "got it." Great performance.

Linguini Beach dotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Presenting out in a soft shimmering mood through vibrato and a lush melody, "Linguini Beach" is very smooth, and influenced by the spaghetti western genre, while dripping surf. This would be gorgeous documented in hi-fi stereo.

Ridin' The Woody dotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

This is the first new track from the Berzerkers in quite a while. "Ridin' The Woody" is a Richard Podolor song that's been a fave of Dino's for a long time. Tribal and moody, with a simple and attractive riff.

Take Me Out To The Ballgame dotdotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

A splendid reinvention of the theme to the game... inspired and fun, flirtatious and grin-bearing. Almost makes you want to sit for endless hours eating cold hot dogs... almost. Too cool!

Iron Board dotdotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

This classical tribute to Alfred Hitchcock uses the theme to his TV series. Amazingly cool interpretation, with warm island whammy and a solid surf beat. Double picked and liquid!

Naughty Pine dotdotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Dark power surf in the key of reverb, all punched up and ready to rumble. Tuff drums, rock solid bass, and excellent surf runs. Lots of power and finesse, and some fine glissandos to boot! "Naughty Pine" is another brand new song.

High Octane dotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Big chunk and pumpin' surf generally of the frat party variety, with a rockin' surf riff and beer induced intensity. Gets yur attention, Fosters or not.

High Compression dotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

"High Compression" is a fast ride on a dangerous reef break. Speedy glissandoes, surf thrash, spunk and punk edge, and lots of cutting back. More spirit and abandon than style, yet very cool.

Bad Czeck dotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Tight reverbed chords and and a moody spy-ish melody line flow from the guitar over a tight beat and smooth bass line. Espionage and adventure with a warmth and charm.

(Ghost) Riders In The Sky dotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

This version of Stan Jones' classic cattle drive instro is stretched out and made slightly psychedelic. It's single picked like the Ramrods' classic hit, filled with warm whammy and occasional double picking. There are touches of Link Wray's "Jack the Ripper" interspersed with surf riffs. At nearly six minutes, Big Wave Dave's relentless bass keeps the theme constant while the guitar and drums experiment. Nice track.

Bullfight In April dotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Fast circular dark surf from the Bell®! Kinda like a fast "Pink Panther" on the rocks. Even a morphed "Wipe Out" verse to connect to the surf.

Left Turn On Arrow Only dotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Riff rockin' in a murky bath of salt water and garage distortion, Davie Allan and the Arrows' "Left Turn On Arrow Only" is a progression based number with a boomy and distant sound. It sports a mean edge and relentless guitar line.

Pacifica dotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

The Aqua Marines were caught live playing Los Straitjackets' "Pacifica" with flair and style. True to the original with swimming whammy chords. The sound may be ambient, but the performance is quite good.
