Collection: Hodge! Podge! Barrage! From Japandotdot
artworkOne of two volumes sampling the releases on the 1+2 Records / Barn Homes label out of Japan. Some American acts, some Japanese. Besides the two reviewed instros below, there are a couple of fun vocal surf things here, including Mutant Monster Beach Party's "Do the Clam" and the American Soul Spiders' "Surfers Rule." Also here is a fine Chesterfield Kings cover of the Status Quo hit "Pictures Of Matchstick Men."
Picks: Dick Dale Medley, Banzai Diamond Head

Track by Track Review

Dick Dale Medley dotdotdot
Garage Surf (Instrumental)

Dry surf assault, flying guitar work, crude arranging and awful sound, but a ton of spirit.

Banzai Diamond Head dotdotdot
Garage Surf (Instrumental)

Based strongly on Link Wray's "Jack the Ripper," this is a sloppy derivative tune with lots of flair but little technique and demo sound. Ample fire, but thin sound.
