Phil Dirt - Reverb Central - PO Box 1609, Felton, CA 95018-1609 USA Collection: Fury-Mental [20 Hot Instrumentals]

 | This is a great collection of surf, surfabilly, and rockabilly instros, spanning quite a time span, all from the last decade. the artwork would lead you to believe it was all rockabilly twang bop, but there is a surprising amount of surf and surfable music here. A good buy, and it's pretty cheap to! |

Track by Track Review
Surf (Instrumental)
Hot Dick Dale-ish guitar and lots of glissandoes, plus a trumpet way in the back. Very cool. The gentle break adds deluxity to an already great track.
Friction
Surf (Instrumental)
A sax dominated fifties instro squank.
Surf (Instrumental)
Chord progression rockabilly with a slow vibrato lead riff. Infectious and super simple.
Surf (Instrumental)
Tom toms and whammy shimmer on the low-E, surfy twang and glissandoes. The tom toms suck you in. It is rhythmic and pristine.
Surf (Instrumental)
Glissandoes and a basic surf progression. It's surfy, though pretty darn dry.
Surf (Instrumental)
Fifties whammy with that pre-surf feel and a grodie guitar.
Surf (Instrumental)
This lies somewhere between John Barry, the Shadows, and surf lap steel. The fiddles are too cool!
Surf (Instrumental)
A standard fifties slow guitar boogie instro.
Surf (Instrumental)
Out of print for a millennium, it's a cool super simple grinder with mid-eighties surfisms.
Shadows (Instrumental)
Atlantics twang on green slowness with added (?). Fast and inspired, with demented guitar echo. "Green Jeans" is a rockabilly translation of "Green Sleeves." Infectious twango.
Surf (Instrumental)
Raw basic fifties version. Thin sound.
Stiletto
Rockabilly (Instrumental)
Basic progression and honky sax. A fifties number than has no direction.
Surf (Instrumental)
Big slow grindy Link Wray cow bell cool fifties instro.
Surf (Instrumental)
A cool upright bass and twangy lead guitar. Chicken bop chops, simple, and almost melody free. Chunky, quite fun, and intense.
Rattlesnake
Surf (Instrumental)
Link Wray with super simple melody free chunk.
Surf (Instrumental)
Whammy and twang and surprisingly cool cardboard drum sound. A very simple progression accented with whammy stingers.
Surf (Instrumental)
Cool melody/progression and pregnant guitar tones. A mystic and haunting mid tempo instro.
Surf (Instrumental)
Sax and fifties guitar, and way too much tape echo. Just an R&B jam.
Surf (Instrumental)
Slow vibrato and stinging whammy create a haunted magic. Very nifty! It sports a simple melody, but has a certain magic.
Surf (Instrumental)
Chicken bop and chunka chunka rockabilly magic. Nice, but not remarkable.
