Track by Track Review

Dead Man Surfin' dotdotdotdotdot
Surf Exotica (Instrumental)

"Dead Man Surfin'" is loaded with surfisms and spooky drama. Muted second guitar, twangin' lead, and a throbbing and moody rhythm. Screams add to the title theme. Great track!

Tamburalo Momce Uz Tamburu dotdotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

The Bitch Boys are racing and splashing through this traditional tune. Splendid sound and fury, upbeat and very attractive, with interesting production.

Sniper Fujiyama dotdotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

What a splendid surf instro! The uplifting flights of fancy born of the lead guitar are entirely too infectious. Supported by a rock solid roots rhythm track and gurgling water, augmented by reverb crashes and glissandos, "Sniper Fujiyama" simply commands repeated listenings. Wonderful!

Kreml De La Kreml dotdotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Whammy dipped rhythm and glissandoes and a very cool gypsy influenced melody run with raw energy and guts. "Kreml De La Kreml" is a fiery song with a catchy melody line and very cool rhythm track.

Nematoad dotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Chord thrash, dribbling surf lead, a bit of seriousness in the melody line, and lots of spark. Nicely developed, with a slight Indian feel to the melody line.

Peacemaker dotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

In a cross between spaghetti and surf, "Peacemaker" is both clean and trashy at the same time. The rhythm and sax drive while the guitars ring. Quite nice.

Dilmohammed dotdotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

The Treble Spankers originated this song. The Madeira recreate it in a more thicker and more dominating arrangement. Big thunder and awesome drama.

Criminal Wave dotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Thick and grindy, "Criminal Wave" is more of a monster rock instro than surf, though that doesn't mean it's not surf. Double picked intensity and a solid melody, and the drums rock!

Into The Big Blue dotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

A moody melody is laid out in a stereo wash of reverberation. Lots of fire and splash and a big storm surf of sparkle. "Into The Big Blue" is a very unusual song!

The Apes Of Wrath dotdotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

With the low-E pummeling the title implies (imagine the Apemen angry), "The Apes Of Wrath" bowls you over from the get go... relentless shredding double picked guitar, powerful arranging, and mean. Intensely driven with flair and relentless energy.

Zombie Walk dotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

"Zombie Walk" is a track with a melody and sound that seem at odds with the title, unless you can imagine carefree zombies on vacation. It's playful and very charming.

Esperos De Ora dotdotdot
Spaghetti Western (Instrumental)

"Esperos De Ora" is a slow moving song of guitar and vibrato chords, horns and slight optimism after a down mood.

The Phantom Of Route 44 dotdotdot
Graveyard Surfabilly (Instrumental)

Somewhere along a deserted highway, the Spectre spreads nails for your tires to impale themselves upon. Angular and a little nervous, "The Phantom Of Route 44" is dark and moody, as well as relentless.

Girls Talk dotdotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

A great surf rhythm and slithery guitars make a fine surf noise with Elvis Costello's catchy "Girls Talk." A glissando pans across the soundscape and the reverb drips. The double picked pure surf verse is spectacular! Very very cool!

Sinbad The Surfer dotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Middle eastern scenes unusually implemented, with a mysterious melody line and a sense that something is about to happen. It's a great adventure at the Oasis, with rich whammy chords and fine drums.

Nit de Llampecs dotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

This is quite a nice moderately paced surf instro, with a tribal/Indian beat and slow stomp ethic. The melody is a little bit like a variation of "Washington Square" in places.

Enchanted Sea dotdotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

This much overlooked exotic anthem to mar del placido sounds really fine. Pure surf, dribbling muted reverb, and a moderate pace. Spectacular! Of the other versions out there, perhaps only the Alvarados compares from an art perspective. This is simply wonderful!

The Woman In Skin 13 dotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Vibrato shimmer and whammy cord warmth mark this surf journey. "The Woman In Skin 13" is both fluid and angular, with a deliberate island charm and a sense of misadventure.

Bikini Drag dotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

"Bikini Drag" is a nicely done and moderately energetic take on the Pyramids' single. Not overly engaging, but very solid. The Sleazy Surfers introduce "Bikini Drag" with an extract from a trailer for the Bikini Beach film.

Membro Makes His Move dot
Jazz (Instrumental)

Cheesy fake jazz, just as the band's name implies. It seems to me to be derivative and faceless.

Iron Board dotdotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

This classical tribute to Alfred Hitchcock uses the theme to his TV series. Amazingly cool interpretation, with warm island whammy and a solid surf beat. Double picked and liquid!

Ments dotdotdotdotdot
Surf Grind (Instrumental)

The fluid melodic nature of "Ments" is juxtaposed against the compressed harshness harshness of the band. Really cool, and a bit more dynamic than many of Estrume'n'tal' recordings. I like this a lot!

Astro Zombie dotdotdotdot
Surf Grind (Instrumental)

"Astro Zombie" is a solid surf experience, moderately paced for drama and drenching reverb. The melody is island-suggestive, and the arrangement very traditional. A thoroughly enjoyable track.

Pie dotdotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

A very infectious surf beat grabs you right away as "Pie" takes off. Double picked, joyous reverb, and a cool melody line. Solid beat and energy, and plenty to make you smile. An excellent track!
