Shortnin' Bread dotdotdotdot
Pre Surf (Instrumental)

This is one rockin' and primal version of "Shortnin' Bread." the spirit of rock 'n' roll is embodied within as the Northern Lights pump and shout. You can hear the basis of the sound of "Bust Out" in their energy and edge. It's really not that far from here to the South Bay Sound. Too much fun!

Slick Chick dotdotdot
Rock (Instrumental)

"Slick Chick" is typical of many mid tempo rockers, with screaming sax and driving guitar. Unlike most bands of the day, the Northern Lights used guitar as the lead and sax as a break or backing instrument, which is one of the things that set surf apart from the instros that came before.

Typhoid dotdotdotdot
Pre Surf (Instrumental)

You know this as "Bust Out" by the Busters. The liner notes would lead you to believe that this is the same as the Patt LP take, and surely the arrangement is of that period, but the audio is a little higher resolution, which may only mean it's from the Bell Sound sessions. Great hard drivin' instrumental madness with some double picked lines and a lot of drive!
