Track by Track Review

Fire Ball dotdotdot
Psychedelic Fuzz (Instrumental)

This is a fairly fast track for psych, with grumbly low fuzz and a nifty melody line. Just shy of catchy, "Fire Ball" rocks and socks 'em in a sub pop way. Nice track.

Ghost Power
Psychedelic Fuzz (Instrumental)

Whistling organ and dumb-o groans and screams with silly sound effects and a directionless fuzz backtrack. Yuk!

Upside Down World dotdot
Psychedelic Fuzz (Instrumental)

The rhythm guitar's riff is pretty cool, but the chorus is out of place. Distant reverbed long slow fuzz lines over a so-so rhythm track. Interesting, but like studio pop psych.

Trouble In The Streets dotdotdot
Psychedelic Surf (Instrumental)

Just shy of surf guitar tone, the Lost Ones use a surf kinda progression and tribal drums to great effect. While not great, this is a cool track with near surf credibility.

5 Minus 3 dot
Garage Organ (Instrumental)

Fast and garagy, "5 Minus 3" is neither mathematical nor very interesting. Just a riff rocker from a garage somewhere. Organ lead.

Down With It dotdot
Psychedelic Fuzz (Instrumental)

Tribal drums and a choppy organ belting out an "I Want Candy" beat while a fuzz guitar noodles on that basic theme. Way too repetitious.

Kaleidoscope dotdotdot
Psychedelic Surf Fuzz (Instrumental)

Heavy chunk fuzz rhythm and shimmering rapid vibrato guitar producing a very surfable melody create an interesting blend of sounds and styles. Pretty interesting.

One Thousand Dimension In Blue dotdot
Echoed Psychedelic R&B (Instrumental)

This is a basic R&B riff number with way too much echo, like a fifties B-side or something.

Mushroom Machine (Part 2) dotdotdot
Psychedelic Chaos (Instrumental)

Bobby Arlin cut this before his stint in the Leaves. It was a studio session that included Skip Battin (Skip & Flip, Nashville West, The Byrds). "Mushroom Machine (Part 2)" is a non melodic relentlessly rhythmic hypnotic track with some cool effects, but mostly just a rhythm. It gets faster as it goes, eventually becoming churning chorded chaos.

Miganda Bus dot
Psychedelic Fuzz (Instrumental)

A typical instro B-side, i.e. no melody, just what sounds like a backtrack to a psychedelic popster.

Test Pattern dotdotdot
Psychedelic Fuzz (Instrumental)

Heavy fuzz in a repetitious frothy structure. Definitely B-side material, though it has its moments.

You're Wrong Girl dotdotdot
Psychedelic Fuzz (Instrumental)

Pompous pop psych with heavy fuzz and rumbling bass glissandoes. No, there's not really a melody, but it's very thick and grumbly.

Some Guys Have It [Some Guys Never Will] dotdotdot
TV Ad Fuzz (Instrumental)

This Brit-pop instro sports the bouncy melody from the Yardley cologne TV ads of the sixties. While it's not magical, it is at least melodic and fun, and well played.

Elegy dotdotdot
Psychedelic Sitar (Instrumental)

Progressive psychedelic eastern influenced with sitar and haunting sound. Slow and moody, like a distant seance or mystical adventure.

Wiggly [45 mix] dotdotdot
Psychedelic Drone (Instrumental)

Mr. Drums did many sessions... this is an interesting drum exercise with droning psychedelic percussion and effects. Nearly monotone, yet attractive in a hypno kinda way.

Tabula Rasa dotdotdot
Psychedelic Fuzz (Instrumental)

Thick and fuzzed out, this instro actually has a melody line, however jammy it is. Almost Hollywood in its sound and structure, and with the heavy organ, it verges on a spiritual downer. OK, but it has something about it that catches your attention.

Electric Tomorrow dot
Psychedelic Fuzz (Instrumental)

Ultra fast tape echo creates what sounds like tape warble. More carnival than psych, "Electric Tomorrow" is neither.

Down In The South dotdotdot
Psychedelic Surf (Instrumental)

A shimmering vibrato guitar plays a surfable melody line that's fairly hypnotic. The drums are pop-psych tribal, and the over sound is on the lighter side, yet this track can fit in a surf set fairly well.

Motorcycle Meredith dotdotdot
Psychedelic Fuzz (Instrumental)

Clean guitar plays the "For Your Love" riff while the drums grumble and pound. The melody never comes, if there ever was one... A backtrack to "For Your Love." While it's kinda interesting, without the lead melody line, it just never develops.

Hot Boogie Gone Cold dotdot
Psychedelic Fuzz (Instrumental)

Basically a backtrack to "Liar Liar," this doesn't get beyond the karaoke stage.

Pappy's Rug [alternative mix] dot
Psychedelic Fuzz (Instrumental)

I don't know who Pappy was, or why his rug mattered, but if this emulates his spirit, he was a pedestrian bore with no musical taste. No more than a boogie.

Dark Part Of My Mind dotdotdot
Psychedelic Fuzz (Instrumental)

"Dark Part Of My Mind" is a heavy wah wah psych exercise in large hall dancing hippy drug trips. Not melodic, but on the interesting side of monotonous, with a pretentious narrative about the dark part of the mind. Definitely stoner music.

Health dotdotdot
Psychedelic Fuzz (Instrumental)

This is relatively melodic, but on the jammy side and quite dismissible. It swirls and twirls, but goes nowhere fast. The riffs are all borrowed from earlier generations.

Resurrection [instrumental mix] dotdotdot
Psychedelic Fuzz (Instrumental)

With a name like Demons of Negativity, you'd expect a dark sound. What you get is a fast haunting pounder with nothing to mistake for a melody. It has a kind of "Shapes Of Things To Come" feel, but without the charm and style.

Beginning Of The End dotdotdot
Psychedelic Fuzz (Instrumental)

Ringing harmonics, dissonant double note riffs, delicate courtier delivery, and an interesting faux classical melody line. This is almost islandic, with a nearly haunting sound. Just interesting enough to warrant additional listens and maybe a reverb treatment with some development.

Cyke dotdotdot
Psychedelic MOR (Instrumental)

The Family Souls deliver a haunting aquatic piece with long room reverb and delicate tones. It's very eerie in an MOR psych vein... very strange.

Kimeaa dotdotdot
Psychedelic Fuzz (Instrumental)

Liquid piano tinkling and fuzz lumbering over H. P. Lovecraft drums and stylings, but a little less pompous and without the operatic vocals. It reminds me of a toned down "Keeper Of The Keys," but more hypnotic. Pretty nice.

Bonus Mystery Track dotdotdot
Psychedelic Fuzz (Instrumental)

Long howling sustained guitar drones and moans, drums and bass lurk beneath the murk, and feedback a la Jade Warrior slowly presents a thematic melody line. Hypno-drone for a nightmare, and very effective.
