The Zombie Surfers do a couple of very cool surf originals while the Chaos Killers create some beat club sleaze, and the Hellbenders deliver the pasta. This whole comp is so much fun to listen to. All the tracks are catchy and humorous. A great buy! From the same city that Snake-Out / The Fuknotz ruled with their indie label Wanghead With Lips. Is their a connection? I think so. Picks: The Hellbenders 'For A Few Dollars More', 'The Big Gundown', 'The Magnificent Seven', The Zombie Surfers 'Pitchfork', 'Transylvania Surf' |
THE ZOMBIE SURFERS "Pitchfork"
Wow! Heavy double picked guitar and tune reminiscent of the Hollywood Surfers' "King Of the Stomp," honkin' sax and all. Minimal melody, mostly a progression, but grindy and low-down cool.

THE ZOMBIE SURFERS "Transylvania Surf"
Opening with a Dracula voice, it's a lot like the studio stuff produced in LA during the sixties, but with more tightness and edge. A cool tune. The sax work is quite appropriate.
Surf Instrumental Stereo
THE CHAOS KILLERS "Get Smart"
Sax and thin guitar, with that Neil Hefty sound, honky horn section and a movie jazz feel.
Surf Instrumental Stereo
THE CHAOS KILLERS "The Man From CONTROL"
Sounding a bit like a GT Stringer precursor, this track has a lot of cool honkin' sax and spy guitar. Really fun.
Surf Instrumental Stereo
THE CHAOS KILLERS "Human Jungle"
Organ melody over a spy guitar progression, and some ominous sax goings on. Repetitious, but quite soundtrack-like. Low down and grodie, in a sleazy club way.
Surf Instrumental Stereo
THE CHAOS KILLERS "Manhunt"
Fifties beat R&B strip joint drink sellin' rockin' saxy grind, midtempo.
Surf Instrumental Stereo
THE HELLBENDERS "For A Few Dollars More"
Get out the spaghetti fork and start twirling the noodles, cuz this lineup is just the best Spaghetti Western band ever! The near Jews harp second guitar is totally cool in the intro. The rolling drum-bass thing carries it down the road. Somewhat dry sounds, whammy action, and totally infectious arranging make this work really well.
Surf Instrumental Stereo
THE HELLBENDERS "The Magnificent Seven"
The Marlboro Man rides across the painted desert chasin' those doggies... dry sounds and not-quite Al Caiola guitar tones pull it together.
Surf Instrumental Stereo
THE HELLBENDERS "The Big Gundown"
Trotting bass lines under twin guitar lines accented with stinging plucks... very cool number. It rings has mega Southwest feel, and invokes images of galloping riders in longcoats and wide brim hats. Bitchin'.
