 | Apollo 13 play instrumentals with more splash than art, while the White Trash Minstrels are more reverb trash than a dumpster in July. |
Picks: Pornohontas, Surf Surf, Slower Than His Shadow, Hava Nagila
Track by Track Review
Surf (Instrumental)
"Pornohontas" follows a Dutch lecture on the evils of you know what. The tune is a dramatic number with spaghetti western chants and American Indian structures. Big chord sustain, sorta Link Wray like, with choppy delivery.
Surf Surf
Surf (Instrumental)
Mild shore break yields to a whirling grodie organ number punctuated with sorta "Lolita Ya-Ya" choruses. It's a cute idea, even catchy, but mixed badly.
Dark Surf Sludge (Instrumental)
This brooding sludge monster is like a highly reverbed Link Wray number, with a walking bass line and spooky reverb drenched production. It's a very scary track, like maybe a cross between Dead Bolt and the Purple Things. Huge and lumbering.
Dark Surf Sludge (Instrumental)
This cut of "Hava Nagila" is murky and awash in too much reverb after the fact. It is, however, a cool track, splashy and hazy, with a whistling organ.
