Phil Dirt - Reverb Central - PO Box 1609, Felton, CA 95018-1609 USA Collection: 30 Seconds Before The Calico Wall
|Now, the 4 stars is for the greatness of this garage comp, not it's instro content. There are two instros, one sludgy head trippy and one surfadelic. Definitely on the cool side.|
Picks: Steamshovel, Young Heartbeat
Track by Track Review
Heavy Psych (Instrumental)
This is way sludgy garage darkness. Fuzz weirdness and relentless progressional hypnosis. Speed-altered spoken word way in the back and high register psycho fuzz noodling. "Steamshovel" has some double picked brainiac distortion and a rising drama on intensity. About three minutes in, it drops down to a lumbering gate before rising once again. Gray matter aside, it's a medicated goo of a tripster.
Surfonic Loungedelic (Instrumental)
This psychedelic instrumental sports definite surf guitar and reverb kicks. "Young Heartbeat" a lumbering number that starts with the reverb kick, and then moves right into this strange juxtaposition between psych and surf, almost as if Arthur Lyman were at the helm. Let's see, that would make it Loungedelic.
