|The Corsairs are from Santa Rosa, California, just a few miles from Olima, the epicenter of the '06 earthquake and the object-town of the Youngbloods answer to "Okie From Muskogee" called "Hippy From Olima." Three original demos on their way to becoming solid surf instros.|
Picks: Agent 13, High Compression, Midnight Surf
Track by Track Review
Surf chords, spy ideas, a surfable riff, and big twang chords, plus a few glissandoes. Add a few string swipes and some double picking, and you have an aggressive short board romp.
"High Compression" is a fast ride on a dangerous reef break. Speedy glissandoes, surf thrash, spunk and punk edge, and lots of cutting back. More spirit and abandon than style, yet very cool.
Slowing things down a bit, this song sports a good melody that projects warm summer nights gazing at the breakwater. This is quite a satisfying track, with a semi tropical south of the border sound. "Midnight Surf" is not the Johnny Fortune song.
