Conanza - The Legend Of Conanzadotdotdot
artworkI can't decide if Conanza is interesting of not. The music seems to me to be fairly cerebral, yet some tracks have genuine surfabilly and psych leanings. You decide. You can find this on the web for free download.
Picks: Afterbirth, Armchair Fantasy, Lap-Brain

Track by Track Review

Afterbirth dotdotdot
Surfabilly (Instrumental)

Long notes give rise to suspicion of a leisurely song to come, but the rockabilly beat and some melody sections that suggest a simplified Slacktone-like song take over. This is a pretty interesting track, though it still needs fleshing out some. "Afterbirth" is under a minute in length.

Armchair Fantasy dotdotdot
Surfadelic (Instrumental)

This is at best riffy, thought its tough textures and drive are commendable. The occasional glissando adds surfability, and the tape echo and extreme effects create psychedelic meandering.

Lap-Brain dotdotdot
Psychotic Surf (Instrumental)

Shimmering tremolo and a slow cadence generate a moody image that's part disturbing and parts relaxing. "Lap-Brain" is not exactly pretty or emotionally connecting, yet it is sort of compelling in a dramatic sense. Once the psychedelic guitar effects take over, it gets almost delusional.

The Fridge dotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

A very busy drum beat and mathematical guitar line mimicked by the bass eventually bring on a jazzy jam riff. "The Fridge" doesn't seem to me to be more than a jam. Aside from the drums and bass, there's not much here that held my interest.
