Phil Dirt - Reverb Central - PO Box 1609, Felton, CA 95018-1609 USA Chachita Surf - Desconocido (Demo)

 | This 2008 demo is truly that - a demo. Recorded live in low fidelity mono, it shows off a band with a strong sound. While heavily influenced by The Bomboras, it is non less vital and infectious. Recorded properly, I think these tracks would have really shined! |
Picks: Eliminator, Preludio, A Fistful Of Terror, Mile Zero, Nomad
Track by Track Review
Surf (Instrumental)
This is a raucous and very garage rendering of "The Wedge." lots of fire and primitive surf emotion. Quite fun!
Surf (Instrumental)
"Eliminator" has a period progression type melody line with some modern elements too. The bridges are particularly cool. This would be great hear really well recorded.

Surf (Instrumental)
All fun - not a drop of seriosity! Riffin' flash and frat fun.
Surf (Instrumental)
A powerful surf melody and solid band energy run through "Preludio" with pizzaz. The middle is jazzy and jammy, while the rest is all surf.
Surf (Instrumental)
graveyard organ presents The Bomboras' "A Fistful Of Terror." This is garagy cool and plenty fun. Some very nice guitar work and long glissandos.
Surf (Instrumental)
"Mile Zero" rocks and churns. It's written like many vintage tracks, though the break is more modern. Lot's of spunk!
Surf (Instrumental)
There's a pretty cool melody line here, with substantial surf energy and flow. "Nomad" rips and churns. There are some liberated vintage lines, and the organ betrays its roots, but it sure does rock!
Surf (Instrumental)
"Playa De Los Muertos " is not as dark as its title suggests. In fact, it's much more like traveling along surf route 101 on a sunny afternoon in search of surf. Optimistic and very surfable.
Surf (Instrumental)
Arden Clar's "Similau" is done in a fairly traditional surf vein with organ added. it's rhythmic an chunky with slithering glissandos.
