Phil Dirt - Reverb Central - PO Box 1609, Felton, CA 95018-1609 USA | These demos were downloaded from the band's website and their MySpace page. The performances and writing are very good. I'd really like to hear a CD release from the Cavernarios. |
Picks: Chacmool, La Rocka Mix, El Ahogado, Guitarra Estrella
Track by Track Review
Surf (Instrumental)
Very rhythm dominated, "Chacmool" sports a double picked lead playing a Spanish favored melody, amped with glissandos and whammy chords. The melody is moody and dark, but the pace and rhythm are upbeat. A very cool song!
Surf (Instrumental)
Rich tremolo throbs while surf tone reigns supreme. "La Rocka Mix" sports a superb Spanish theme, with deluxe muted chords and double picked charm. This really grabs you. Perfect for that drive down the coast on your way to your secret spot. Some lines are borrowed, others hint at traditional tunes, but overall, this is simply superb!
Surf (Instrumental)
This fine track sounds like it's right outta Southern California, with an eye on Baja. "El Ahogado" is nicely arranged and very infectious. Great guitar interaction, with trading lead-rhythm roles. I like this a lot!
Surf (Instrumental)
"Guitarra Estrella" is a double picked number with a kind of Jon and the Nightriders melody at times, but with a European slant. It's hard not to like this, with it's fluid motion oriented sound. Very cool!
