The California Wave Wizards - Surfin' U.S.A - 20 Surfin' Favoritesdot
artworkThis is pure Wal-Mart checkout exploitation music. There's nothing here worth your shekels, and certainly not worth your time. One wonders if The California Wave Wizards ever really heard surf music before trying to exploit it.

Track by Track Review

The California Wave Wizards - Misirlou dot
Surf (Instrumental)

This is a really cheesy, light weight version of one of surf's signature songs. The word pathetic comes to mind as I listen to this obvious exploitation rip-off.

The California Wave Wizards - Wipe Out dotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Modestly OK, but lacking spirit and life, "Wipe Out" is done with little regard to the real genre. This will not impress your friends or lead to Aqua-Nirvana.

The California Wave Wizards - Walk Don't Run dot
Surf (Instrumental)

Played like the neighbors might hear, "Walk Don't Run" has all the charm of a used car lot in August. It's precise, but done with such pretentious triteness that it's completely dismissible.

The California Wave Wizards - Pipeline dotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

"Pipeline" has a bit of volume, but the playing and effects are just so not-surf. Tight does not translate into good surf music.

The California Wave Wizards - Diamonds dotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

This is an OK version of Jet Harris and Tony Meehan's "Diamonds," though you'll likely never ever play it a second time. It's just so pedestrian. Besides, this isn't a surf instro, is it?
