Cadillac Angels - Nobody Sings Or The Guitar Gets Itdotdotdotdot
artworkSomehow, everything this fine band has done was just a prelude to this excellent CD. It's recorded in a vintage distant way, not particularly crisp, but very effective for the band's music, which is nothing short of glorious. Tony Tarzan's shimmering vibrato is supported so well by Micky Rae's thumpin' upright bass and Jerome Taylor's perfect drums. Excellent!

Wray Gunn dotdotdotdot
Ska Surf (Instrumental)

Ska surf infectious fun... I mean, this is FUN! It's also very original and infectious. It reminds me of early Halibuts, with a rounder tone.

Have Cadillac, Will Travel dotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

This is a cover of the New Dimensions' "Cat On A Hot Foam Board" played with as much fire, but with a more toned down sound. It sports a more subtle energy, and testifies to the flexibility of the tune. Extra cool.

Bongo Bucks dotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Great title, hinting of anarchy on the beach, or maybe eating sand at the hands of nasty shorebreak. Either way, it rages with double picked dribbling notes, vibrato guitar support, and solid percussion.

Caballo Blanco dotdotdotdot
Big Guitar (Instrumental)

Spanish suave, Senorita Sunshine undulates in the breeze... yes, yes, this is just fine. Warm and friendly.

Thane's Theme dotdotdotdot
Big Guitar (Instrumental)

Sorta fifties beat generation detective theme, kinda progressional, and quite earthy. Dig the suave.

Apache dotdotdotdot
Big Guitar (Instrumental)

For the first time ever, Jerry Lordan's "Apache" is recorded with an upright bass. The guitar shimmers, the bass moans, and the tribal tom toms pulse. It's a mighty tasty track!

Chowa Timba dotdotdotdot
Big Guitar (Instrumental)

George of the Jungle tom toms, Tarzan calls, throbbing guitar riffs, and big thunder from the bass. So, here's another example of just how effective a really simple riff can be with the right backup and sparse arrangement. Smell the palm trees and feel the vines... excellent.

Hey Ray dotdotdotdot
Spaghetti Western (Instrumental)

"A Mother's Hand" is a silky and moody bell-like introduction to "Buddy," which is a slow and spaghetti western flavored guitar instro.

Motor Fiend Boogie dotdotdotdot
Siberian Surf (Instrumental)

This is a mighty short incidental guitar piece that could well be developed into an entire work. It's melody underlies the Red Elvises' "Boogie On The Beach."

Cadillacs Out West dotdotdotdot
Big Guitar (Instrumental)

Cactus, spaghetti, drifting sands, and ultra suave imagery. This is just too fun. It's clearly western, and also shimmers with Tony's vibrato pulsing out a magnetic throb.

Angel Serenade dotdotdot
Siberian Surf (Instrumental)

This is a really cools and moody piece, Russian surfy and twisted with bottle neck weirdness. Spooky ambiance and melodic fluidity.
