Phil Dirt - Reverb Central - PO Box 1609, Felton, CA 95018-1609 USA Eddie Burkey - Stepping Stones c/w Emerald Shadows

 | Eddie Burkey is possibly from Downey, and definitely from the Downey studio is where this was recorded. This 1965 release features some very cool surf guitar on the a-side. The b-side is a throw away - well done, just uninteresting. Burkey might have played with The Ventures at times, and is rumored to have done some session work. |

Track by Track Review
Orchestral Surf Pop (Instrumental)
This very cool track from Ed Burkey sports really wet muted surf guitar and nearly Hollywood Persuaders horns, accompanied by strings and a bouncy rhythm. A thoroughly cool track! This appears on the Downey 'Intoxica' collection as "Dreams Of Downey" by Ed Burkey.
Emerald Shadows
Orchestral Surf Pop (Instrumental)
Very unlike the a-side, "Emerald Shadows" is a slow slushy instro with strings and chorus. The guitar, while still surfy, is much less interesting. Easy, fluid, but unremarkable.
