Phil Dirt - Reverb Central - PO Box 1609, Felton, CA 95018-1609 USA | This band is from 1973, which is quite remarkable. The drums seem '78 LA, almost Agent Orange like. This Ventura band was a forerunner to the Surf Punks. Hal Jepsen went to Dennis Dragon looking for bands for his 1973 project A Sea For Yourself. Dennis had heard about this Pacific Palisades High School band featuring guitarists Ed Berghoff and Billy Camm, with David F. (harmonica) and Jimmy Garafalo (bass). Dennis joined as the drummer. Daryl Dragon (The Captain and Tennille) played synth and sound fx on a couple of their studio tracks. These two instros recently surfaced on the web. |
Picks: Pipeline To The Bozone, TubeJam
Track by Track Review
Surf Punk (Instrumental)
This is an excellent version of "Pipeline" It's completely out of sorts, or maybe it's a natural thing along side of Agent Orange. Manic drums, rock guitar break, swirly semi-psych edge, and the clear pre-Surf Punks roots. Quite interesting.
Rock (Instrumental)
"TubeJam" is just what you'd imagine - a jam. It's more bluesy rock-jam than surf influenced, and the drums seem stuck part way between punk and rock.
