Billy Joe Winghead - Precious Momentsdotdotdotdot
artworkFirst of, this is a long way from surf. Second, if you're not familiar with Billy Joe Winghead, enter with caution. Third, Billy Joe Winghead are true originals. The two instros here have been covered many times by surfbands, but no one slaughters them like Billy Joe Winghead. And if you're really adventurous, the last track on the disc is their insanely demented cover of "Freebird."
Picks: Caravan, Harlem Nocturne

Track by Track Review

Caravan dotdotdotdot
Rock (Vocal)

Really dark bass throbs out an opener before the theremin and wah wah guitar destroy all that is sacred. The theremin carries the lead, and there's just nothing more disturbing, except that it's played against a tuff punky backtrack. There's a verse or two of irreverently delivered vocals. Damn!

Harlem Nocturne dotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

The classic Earl Hagen tune made familiar by the Viscounts come into new territory as Billy Joe Winghead's theremin supports the vibrato guitar lead. The eeriness is unnerving, and the warble somehow magnetic. What a monster, big fuzz break, evil tones, and brooding dockside danger.
