Phil Dirt - Reverb Central - PO Box 1609, Felton, CA 95018-1609 USA The Barbwires - Chicken Race

 | This single was issued in 2000. The first three tracks struck me as gimmicky and ho-hum when compared to the last track here, or The Barbwires' usual material for that matter. |
Picks: Whip-Out (Whiplash)
Track by Track Review
Frat Surf (Instrumental)
"Hang Five" is a big chant "hey" song. The melody is unusual and sometimes compelling, but not of the memorable type. Thunder drums rumble behind the band.
Frat Surf (Instrumental)
Chicken pluckin' and sliding strangitude permeate "Chicken Race" for a fun ride into the barnyard. More strange than cool.
Frat Surf (Instrumental)
Gimmicky noise and string action, along with go-go organ and a solid surf rhythm seem at odds at times. "Dead Beat" is a lot more riff rock or frat rock than surf instro.
Surf (Instrumental)
Holy cow! The Barbwires really shred on this loud and powerful take of Metallica's "Whiplash!" The in your face attack is actually more powerful than the original in my opinion.
