Phil Dirt - Reverb Central - PO Box 1609, Felton, CA 95018-1609 USA | Most of the sounds of this CD are based on the sixties go-go sounds heard at the dance oriented beat clubs. It's the sorta sounds that the Ventures used on their Ventures "A Go-Go" album. Fun, cool, but little surf here. Much of it is rhythm - progression oriented, but it seems to work for the period it is based on. Fun CD. |

Track by Track Review
Sixties Go-Go (Instrumental)
From NASA's countdown sequence, we are launched into a throbbing rhythmic surfy backtrack with a spy-like guitar. The space chatter continues throughout the track. It's among the better tracks with samples of this sort. Quite nice.
Sixties Go-Go (Instrumental)
Plunky throbbing rhythmic track with too much organ for me, though the minimal tribal darkened club aspects seem to work, like a break-ender from a sixties club like Sunnyvale's Wayne Manor. Tasty spacy sounds and an intense buildup make it work, but is mostly without a melody. Cool theremin-like sounds.
Sixties Go-Go (Instrumental)
Edgie sixties go-go sounds, big organ backing, backtrack progressions, and textural elements like the Ventures A Go-Go album. Tasty stuff, though not surfy at all. Appropriately titled.
Sixties Go-Go (Instrumental)
Grindy fluffy go-go sounds, hinting of go-go girls in cages suspended above the crowd of hangers on.
Sixties Go-Go (Instrumental)
Edgie guitars, club chunka chunka, round bass lines, and rhythmic orientation. A touch of a hint of Kraan, sorta.
Sixties Go-Go (Instrumental)
Big fuzz, drama, pomp, Davie Allan inspired, very cool intensity. Minimally melodic, with screaming girls, and visions of white go-go boots.
Sixties Go-Go (Instrumental)
Slower, semi countrified, melodic, and somehow at odds with the title. This is fluffy, enjoyable, and fun, despite the silly chorus vocals.
Sixties Go-Go (Instrumental)
Vibratoed keys open into another go-go archetype. Spiffed keyboard leads are nice and fitting for this cover.
Sixties Go-Go (Instrumental)
Mostly like a backtrack waiting for a vocal, yet interesting enough to keep your attention. It's sorta enticing, and sports quite a pleasant energy.
Sixties Go-Go (Instrumental)
This is a nice track, sporty, energetic, catchy, and spunky. A nice blend of the guitar and organ and fine drums 'n' bass. Quite spirited, and very fun.
Sixties Go-Go (Instrumental)
Light plucky guitar licks, a rolling go-go bass line, and a relentless pattern overlain by a thin cheesy organ. Cute.
Sixties Go-Go (Instrumental)
Cheep drum machine percussion, organ dominated, exotic swaying alligator suits, and martigras finery. A party fun anthem for the South American in you.
Sixties Go-Go (Instrumental)
A heavier track, with a chunkier drum/bass track, a more relentless festival rock jam feel, and a simple progression. The guitar tones verge on surf influenced via the use of the whammy. Cool tribal track.
Sixties Go-Go (Instrumental)
Hokum rides again - this is cowboy laden, twang driven, and fantastico. Relentless, but refreshingly spaghetti free western influenced.
Sixties Go-Go (Instrumental)
Django Reinhardt influenced, flamenco driven, spaghetti powered, and wind swept. This is a fine track. It's sense of drama and eerie tones are quite nice.
Sixties Go-Go (Instrumental)
El themo de Torpedo. Reminds me a lot of some of the Torpedoes' material. Edgie guitarista hero, with mariachi horn sounds. Bitchin' track.
Sixties Go-Go (Instrumental)
Super light weight, shimmering, brooding, moody, and interesting. Unusual start-stop, film score ambiance.
Sixties Go-Go (Instrumental)
Chunky edgie guitar, lumbering pace, whistling organ, sparse thinking, and eerie ideas.
