Track by Track Review

Lonely B.A.T.O. dotdotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

"Lonely B.A.T.O." is a pretty and soft surf song with a sad melody. It's quite an inviting song, with a relaxed and gentle aquatic sparkle via whammy and reverb. A very nice track with a bit of drama and attractive sound.

Red Flyin' Carpet dotdotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Damped and delicate, "Red Flyin' Carpet" seems more Mexican tropical than Middle eastern, yet it has a caravan and oasis feel. Sad and fluid, with some really good ideas. Utterly splendid!

Djevojko Mala dotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

This is a very pretty melody with the sadness of a Russian epic. The beautiful melody haunts and draws you in. Eventually, they double-time it, making "Djevojko Mala" over into a nearly "Godfather" kind of song.

Doo Wop Surfin' dotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

This is way too much fun. Several early rock 'n' roll songs blended into a surfable instro. The rhythm from "His Latest Flame," part of the melody from a couple of lost doo-wop classics, and you have a fifties beach party. The timing is a bit rough at times, but it's entirely fun.

Harry Mary dotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

"Harry Mary" is a bouncy countrified piece, with a playful melody and bouncy rhythm.

Kakawaii dotdotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Vibrato, island breezes, and a soft afternoon lagoon feel floats the intro. Once the drums come through, it becomes less floating, yet in the final verses when the band is playing delicate slowly metered surf, "Kakawaii" takes on a downright attractive arrangement.

La Musica Del Mar dotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

"La Musica Del Mar" is a soft and pretty song of the sea. Delicate and wistful, it floats on a pillow of surf and warm breezes. But wait, there's more! half way through, they amp the tempo up a bit, retaining the softness. Very nice.

Misserlou-Havanagila dotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

The Bananas us "Hava Nagila" for the last verse of a spirited "Miserlou." It's not a harsh rave up, but rather a reverent nod to Dick Dale with fluidity in mind. A nice arrangement very close to the original surf hit.

Russian Girl dotdotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

This is a sultry undulating track with a fine melody line and great surf chunk. The rhythm and lead work really well together. The gypsy section is very cool, as is the faster surf rage towards the end. Great track!

Sicilian Devil dotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

This is quite a cool track. The rhythm is classic line dance, while the melody is so Mafiosi! As it gradually accelerates, it becomes more and more surf. Tremolo shimmer, a bouncing rhythm, and a spaghetti melody. "Silicon Devil" gets faster and faster as it passes. Great tone! Excellent!

Bull's Eye In San Fernando dotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

manic drums and ska rhythm guitar, glissandoes and reverb. "Bull's Eye In San Fernando" is an odd combination of elements mixing Spanish, surf, punk, and tango.

Surfin' Cowboy dotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Cactus drama, long dribbling surf rhythms, and spooky tone. "Surfin' Cowboy" is a sad number with an interesting blend of surf and turf. Great damped glissandoes and double picked melody lines throughout!

Telonama dotdotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Whammy chords and tick-tock notes evolve into a really fine surf interpretation of "Telonama." This is easily as much fun as Meshugga Beach Party. Brilliant choice, well arranged, and just too cool!

Teenage Surf Vampire dotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

This is a tasteful version of "Teenage Surf Vampire," with excellent double picking and a Mediterranean feel.

Secer Of Love dotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

gently flowing soft surf whammy, damped notes wrung out for rhythm, and echoed lead guitar floating a breezy melody line. "Secer Of Love" is somewhat reminiscent of Bob Vaught and the Renegaids' "Surfin' Tragedy."
