Phil Dirt - Reverb Central - PO Box 1609, Felton, CA 95018-1609 USA The Bahareebas - Jellyfishing

 | There's just a lot to like here. The simple riffology that was surf in the sixties is the basis here, and the writing is excellent. More importantly, the Bahareebas have arranged these songs in a very infectious way. It's hard not to grin and bounce while listening. Vocals on this CD include the eerie and way fun "Vampire Beach," "Lollipop Whore," "Safran," and "Don't Steal My Show." |
Picks: Superkings, Dunewalk, Karate Island, Back To The Details, Winona, Umba, Ocean Cowboy's Last Ride, Robo Shark In Gefahr
Track by Track Review
Surf (Instrumental)
Big twang and whammy, a bouncing backtrack, and an infectious melody riff make "Superkings" a great party anthem, while also having a melody that you can hold onto. Cool track.
Surf (Instrumental)
"Dunewalk" sports an infectious ska rhythm and very satisfying lead guitar. It's not complex, but it sure is cool! It romps, stomps, and flows. Every time I hear it, I like it more!
Surf (Instrumental)
This is an oddly structured song that uses its uniqueness as its draw. The riff is quirky without being just odd, and the backtrack is sorta surf spy party. A fun and engaging track with a fuzz break and reverb.
Surf (Instrumental)
A simple but catchy riff reverbs across your psyche as the song pumps and grinds. Tribal drums dominate "Back To The Details" as the organ swirls.
Surf (Instrumental)
Gutsy and richly swirled, "Winona" prances and stomps with an inviting riff and amped up shouts of her name. It's hard not to like this track.
Surf (Instrumental)
"Umba" is a very cool track with a lighter sound and infectious rhythm track. Island chords, warm string bending, and a sense of drama on vacation. There's nothing real complex here, just a very catchy sound that makes you grin and move. Excellent!
Surf (Instrumental)
Rompin' across the desert chasing doggies through the cactus, "Ocean Cowboy's Last Ride" is all about fun and motion. The grins abound as you listen to the song ride across the speakers. Very nice!
Surf (Instrumental)
Plenty of shark stompin' goin' on here! Lots of energy and grins, and a simple but very satisfying melody line. You can't sit still while "Robo Shark In Gefahr" is playing.
