Phil Dirt - Reverb Central - PO Box 1609, Felton, CA 95018-1609 USA | Only one of these three demos ended up on their CD. The first two sound like rehearsal recordings of perhaps the most surfable songs in their repertoire. |
Picks: Achilles Heel, Sincest, Tom Samson Can Carry Two Conversations At Once
Track by Track Review
Surf (Instrumental)
The song is pretty surfy, with an excellent guitar melody and solid beat. Mid-song, it slows like shorebreak, but otherwise "Achilles Heel" is very cool. The damped reverb lines are pure surf! This harsh stereo demo sounds like it's from a rehearsal.
Surf (Instrumental)
"Sincest" is an uncharacteristically short song. At under a minute, it's a combination of cowboy and surf and rhythmic undulation. Very cool, with a hurried and intense energy.

Surf (Instrumental)
"Tom Samson Can Carry Two Conversations At Once" is an excellent instro with a fine melody line and rhythmic appeal. On the dark side, and atmospheric too. Drama, mystery, and a sense of the frontier.
