Track by Track Review

Dark Surf dotdotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Ultra heavy dark surf eerily comes your way via a nasty double picked lead, reverbed and powerful over an intense howl from a wailing Theremin. Strong drums and bass, and an overall evil texture. Intensely personal in a damaged and dangerous way.

Arab Bush dotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

More or less Bedouin in melody, "Arab Bush" bumps and grooves in a dangerous way, with choked and dribbled guitar. Most unusual.

Turkish Delight dotdotdotdotdot
(Instrumental)

"Turkish Delight" has been floated about in demo form as a CD single for a while. In final mastering, it is simply superb! It's so much bigger! Huge, powerful, imaginative, and utterly infectious. This very ominous instro with a Mediterranean mystique and stereo guitars darkly spreads danger, subtle optimism, and desperation as only great songs can. It uses many changes and to convey its stark imagery. I like this a lot.

Sewerpipe Ride dotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

"Sewerpipe Ride" is menacing dark surfcore with evil chord progressions and disturbing Theremin howls. The warlike sound is intense. Yikes!

Shylock Shake dotdotdotdot
(Instrumental)

Splashy playful darkness abounds in this imaginative epic suggestive of spies and adventure. The very original structure and combination of sounds is quite compelling. Excellent!

2003 Horsepower dotdotdotdotdot
Punk Surf (Instrumental)

A lonely whistler wards off the darkness and chill of the graveyard wind while the funeral drums and surf guitar sullenly set the scene. Then, like there's no distance between surf and punk, the guitars richly churn out a damped chop rhythm against pumped drums and thundering bass. "2003 Horsepower" is more than just threatening. Amazing!

Romany Vardo dotdotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

A short sampled vocal source of inspiration with jaws harp overdubbed yields to a slightly yokel beat behind a playfully almost klezmer surf romp. The blending of hickoidal barnyard and traditional melody style filtered through reverb is irresistible. Very cool.

Cruisin' Down Menahem Blvd. dotdotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

"Spanish Wave" features a Spanish melody line, and plenty of energy. This was the highlight of the performance, in my opinion. Lots of flair and energy, and a very attractive power surge, like Link Wray on the breakers. I love this!

Settler Gogo dotdotdotdotdot
(Instrumental)

With a light hearted beat and marvelous muted rhythm, and a cautious melody, "Settler Gogo" contrasts playfulness with caution. The image presented is of celebration amid ever-present danger. Very cool!

Sharqiya dotdotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

This is a slow and ultra groovy track. The silky intro gives way to double picked playfulness as the main body of the song comes in. "Sharqiya" is an unusual song in a fairly straight surf format, but it's dissonant danger and nontraditional beat set it apart. Very cool!

Omar Shariff Ballad dotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Great double pick surf anguish and dark power rhythm, screaming insanity from the Theremin further dissociates the song from anything remotely resembling tranquility. I didn't recognize the title.

Kabbalah Fucker dotdotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Vial epithets open... so beware. Once past, "Kabbalah Fucker" becomes a monstrously evil surf ride. Huge tone, and howling wails. This is a desert war at machine gun speed, fought against aliens of other worlds.

The Man With The Golden Reverb dotdotdotdotdot
Espionage Surf (Instrumental)

Shimmering vibes and dripping surf guitar, a sullen horn, and film score drama... "The Man With The Golden Reverb" is a well developed piece of music, and with minimal luck, should really find its way onto celluloid. Flute and vibes, damped reverb rhythm, and delightful arranging. Too cool!

Fanatic Mule Ride dotdotdotdot
(Instrumental)

Fast and brimming with dark danger, "Fanatic Mule Ride" is very strong. Its dark soundscape and flippant melody combine to create a magnetic punkoidal romp on the back of a most stubborn creature. Quite cool!

Mystic Sphincter dotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Opening with gloom borrowed from "Dark Surf," and adrift with dramatic power, this eventually evolves into a double pick ultra dark surf number with the danger of Mavericks on a really bad day.

Tropically Disturbed dotdotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

This is a very nice arrangement of the old Marcels hit. Playful and bouncy, and just maybe the best cover of this highly melodic old vocal standard anywhere. An inspired performance.

Simadadoosah dotdotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Damped surf rhythm and a middle eastern melody line, double picking danger, sand-dune slides, and darkness. It's very short and infectious. "Simadadoosah" plays with dangerous fate as if it was just another instrument.

Bat Yam Stomp dotdotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Tuff and like klezmer for a nightmare, "Bat Yam Stomp" pumps and pounds, and sports dark double picked guitar menacing the night. Great track.

Gunslinger 406 Malfunction dotdotdotdotdot
Spaghetti Surf (Instrumental)

In an inversion of the usual spaghetti western itinerary, "Gunslinger 406 Malfunction" dangerously brings forth mechanical collapse. Theremin, chorus voices, eerie bells, and a sense of Annie Haslam's Renaissance gone mad in the curl. Pompous surf and larger than life production.
