Astroboy - Straight From The Hamperdotdotdot
artworkAstroboy is a predecessor of the Sand-Dunes. This is quite similar in style, and generally of demo quality. There are some really nice moments here, including some solid writing and playing. Closing out the CD is a wispy female vocal of Henry Mancini's "Moon River" over a sci-fi weird exotica backtrack.

Attack Of The Articulated Metal Robots dotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Vibrato throb and surf riffs darkly thunder under the shroud of the evil mechanoids. Menacing and sporting interesting pick slide wham-bam. Dissonant.

Penetration dotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

The arrangement is pretty straight. The shimmer of the second guitar and the phrasing are from the original, but the sound is dark and moody. The bass is a little too high in the mix.

Boba Fett's Revenge dotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Swimming whammy and thumpy bass support a dribbled double pick riff, all driven with a ton of energy. The repetition wears thin pretty quickly, but power carries it off.

The Greenie Meanies dotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Dank and almost mildew contamination of the placid scenes of your youth. This dark number is intense and relentless. The vibrato shimmer is cool and the thunder powerful.

La Comida Del Diablo dotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Spanish guitar themes, slow introduction with whammy chords and slowly vibrated backing, with a melody that is very pleasing, haunting and dramatic, floating and mysterious. I think this is the best track here.

Pipeline dotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

The glissando intro is preceded by the dribbling rhythm guitar. The arrangement is not particularly out of the ordinary, but the in-sync drums and guitar glissandoes are very cool and the power is solid. The bass line is the same as the Agent Orange version, and when combined with the rest of the elements, it ends up being identifiably the property of Astroboy!

Amber Lynn dotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Beer garten weirdness introduces this riff surf track. The discordant lead riffs disturb the calm. A strange track for sure.

Of Names and Numbers dotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Man or Astro-MAN?'s tune with weird backward swirled vocal effects under the narrated story line. The production is like a segment of the Hawklords' "Psi Power." The music is typically MoA-M's rhythm dominated churn instro.
