Aqualads - Aqualads Xmasdotdotdotdot
artworkNew on the horizon, the Aqualads have used a relatively trad foundation to build their chunky sound from. This CD-R is a promo only issue, but if you coax them mightily, they may soon issue a CD that you can call your own. These tracks hint of good things to come. These highly inventive garage band surf instros leave you quite satisfied.

We Wish You An Aqua Christmas dotdotdotdot
Christmas Surf (Instrumental)

Surfin the carport for that missing gift, welcoming the red suited elf with tidings of good cheer. This is a solid rejuvenation, with raging glissandoes, a choppy beat, and some double picked crunch.

Whammy Wonderland dotdotdotdot
Christmas Surf (Instrumental)

Surfin' with Hugo Winterhalter... a very cool adaptation of this holiday modern classic. Solid, chunky, and very fun. Cool tones, good energy, and a spirited interpretation.

Dingle Balls dotdotdot
Christmas Surf (Instrumental)

Dribbling double picked notes deliver this spirited interpretation of the most familiar of all holiday songs. Slithery, holly driven, and finely honed guitar over a trad surf beat.

Haunted Beach dotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Eerie, forbidden sadness, riders on the wake. This is a very nice moody piece, with a pretty melody, a nice interplay between lead and rhythm, and a haunting appeal. It almost cries, but won't quite allow the tears to flow. It's more an optimistic look forward than an self indulged look back. Nice.

The Aquanettes Theme dotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Thematic, dramatic, exclamation mark driven, and double pick powered. It is not particularly melodic, but it sports raw energy and a guitar onslaught.

Teenage Surf Vampires dotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Post pubescent blood suckers hover over head, while this nicely whammied surf tune holds sway over the intended victims. It's not melodic exactly, but it has power and character, and a modicum of flying double picked guitar lines. Good track.

Hotbox dotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Spanish surf and tango sensibilities abound. This track generates images of black lace and roses, and long slithering rides on perfect curl along an island coastline. Ins and outs, and warm sun. A fine song.

Bikini Jungle dotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Tribal drums, chunky rhythms, and churning guitar lines, combine with the drama of the delivery to produce a solid track. Shy of a strong melody, it none the less sports an infectious progression and creative underlying idea that hold your attention. It's an energetic and attractive tune.
