Phil Dirt - Reverb Central - PO Box 1609, Felton, CA 95018-1609 USA Aqua Vista - Peel Sessions

 | This is the unreleased John Peel session that Aqua Vista recorded recently, broadcast on John Peel's show on July 17, 2001. It's pretty amazing that the BBC engineers got the surf sound down so well. |
Picks: 25 Gallons Of Paranoia, Viva Quattro, Dangerman, Tiger 100, Toxic Beach
Track by Track Review
Surf (Instrumental)
What a wonderful track. melodic, smooth, and highly liquid. Very much in a trad mold with heavy Spanish influences and rich tone. Of course, about halfway through, Aqua Vista launch into a faster much more muscled delivery for a very strong performance.
Surf (Instrumental)
Fast and punishing, "Viva Quattro" drives really hard with the reverbed power you've come to expect from Aqua Vista. Thrashy and mean, with storm surf overtones.
Surf (Instrumental)
Big thrashing and hard charging, this is one mean short board assault. Damn intense! Not really melodic, but very rich and nervous.
Surf (Instrumental)
"Tiger 100" is double picked at ninety miles per hour on a stormy day where riders are thrust by the green walls high in the air, only to be dashed on the rocks. Manic and nasty, and oh-so satisfying.
Surf (Instrumental)
A great reworking of the old Surf Creatures' tune, raging powerfully and writhing with surf punk attitude. A totally fine session, with machine gun double picking. magnificent.
