Track by Track Review
Surf (Instrumental)
Slowly rising, the dark and murky "El Ninjo" menaces the calm with damped super high notes above tribal drums. Spanish chords portray spaghetti western banditos in serapes on the horizon. The lumbering thunder menace of dribbling double picked drama and military drums portray stunning imagery. Damped meandering reverb and powerfully eerie danger. Exceptional!
Spy Surf (Instrumental)
A chunky progression and grunts present the surf over great drums. The keys add a spooky, almost sci-fi sound. Thunder overhead and spies behind every rock.
Surf (Instrumental)
"Marabunta" pulses on the keys above a rumbly spy sound. It all happens with relentless attack. Dangerous and threatening.
Surf (Instrumental)
Dedicated to the soccer player, "Vascovic" is tribal and intriguing. Grumbly and mysterious, with great drums and throbbing bass. The melody line is loaded with dangerous curves and reverb.
Surf (Instrumental)
A brilliant reinvention of the Clash's "The Guns Of Brixton" with flute lead! Incredible. Surf chords behind the flute bring charm to this beach friendly track. Trashy, thrashy, and entirely cool, with a big fuzz break. It's more than a little interesting that this song is so well suited to the surf idiom.
Surf (Instrumental)
Imagine oriental influences, surf reverb, tuff drums, grumbly bass, and whistling keys, then add a bit of soy sauce to the mix, and viola! "Theme For A Crispy Duck" is a tribal and splendidly playful song with a very original sound.
Surf (Instrumental)
Hard rockin' drums and bass pump under a playful guitar progression, whirling around a very surfable song. "Talbot" grows on you as it progresses with an adventurous and flippant melody celebrating the car of the same name.
Spy Surf (Instrumental)
Vibrato shimmer haunts the foreground on a dungeonous progression. Flute carries the break for a flighty change. Low key and kinda fifties hipster, "Bram Pepper Shuffle" is more about the scene than a song. Jazzy, too cool for school, and fun.
Surf (Instrumental)
"Freedom Fighter" is a fast double picked song with incredible drums. The keyboard break is inspired. The song hints of spies and the cold war. A splendid power sandwich.
The Custer Stomp / Mar Gaya

Surf (Instrumental)
With a demented chant opens the Scouts "The Custer Stomp." It's twangy and dark, with great drums and pumpin' keys with a calliope feel. Lots of energy and crunch. As the song lowers to a tribal beat under Indian chants, it shifts to the Fender IV's ultra throbber "Mar Gaya." The keys play a weirdening role in this dark stomp. Totally cool!
