Track by Track Review
Surf (Instrumental)
Tuff hard driving surf with two guitars counter powering their way through an unusual and very surfable melody. "Big Surf" drama, vibrato intensified, and over the top energy! A great track!
Surf (Instrumental)
This mid tempo track throbs with intense vibrato and dangerous dissonance. Purely ominous and well defined, "The Headhunter" is out to get you. Your days are numbered now!
Surf (Instrumental)
With the throb and ringing chords of spaghetti western epics, "The Plank" is a pure pleasure of multiple guitars and angular intrusion. The sense of adventure and danger are remarkably clear in this thickly layered epic.
Surf (Instrumental)
A grumbly bass launches this rough textured twangster. It has none of the playfulness of the Astronauts' "Hodoggin'," or any other such titled surf classics. "The Hotdogger" is like a prelude to a dirge for a fallen daredevil, a celebration of the extreme risks taken in stride until it's too late to err on the side of caution.
Surf (Instrumental)
Intense and vibrato warbly, "Closeout" is a slower piece with a sad overtone, and a melodic picture of a longboard ride's end. Pretty and a little dangerous.
Surf (Instrumental)
I do believe this is a cover of the Atlantics' 2002 epic "Atlantica." Angular rhythm guitar and fiery surf leads heavily thunder through this shredder. Very strong!
Surf (Instrumental)
With an angular spy sound, the Alohas pound through "Superskeg" with a shredder's abandon. Not exactly melodic, but intense and mean, with quite a wallop of power.
Surf (Instrumental)
"Morguesbord" sports a sci-fi edge, a dissonant sadness, and a sense of dangerous liaisons. Structured like a Henry Mancini farce theme, yet quite chilling. It longs for home, but is committed to completing the assignment, no matter the cost.
Surf (Instrumental)
Introduced by a sample from a classic sci-fi film, and drenched in throbbing moonlight over Laguna, "Lunalaguna" powers and commands, not letting up for a second. It's all power and intensity, with tweaky sci-fi effects and a highly nervous edge.
Surf (Instrumental)
This is based on a riff from a vintage frat or Memphis track I can't place. That aside, its power and thick sound demand attention. Not quite as interesting as the rest of the release, but certainly tuff.
