Phil Dirt - Reverb Central - PO Box 1609, Felton, CA 95018-1609 USA The Alder Kings - Who Goes There?

 | Four fuzz riff rockers and one reverb track. None of these songs are really very interesting to me. |
Picks: none
Track by Track Review
Volcanica
Surf (Instrumental)
Grode fuzz riff rock destroys the calm. Big and noisy, but more riff than melody. The long sustain into the break is very cool, but that's not enough to keep "Volcanica" afloat.
Horror Express
Surf (Instrumental)
A spy-ish chord pattern cycles to become the main riff. "Horror Express" is repetitious and not really compelling. Its main feature is its loud tone.
Surf (Instrumental)
Muted reverb layered in a stereo wash. "Dead of Night" is not more interesting than the preceding tracks, but the 'verb seems much more sympathetic to the song than the fuzz. Still, if not for the muted reverb, it would be dismissible.
The Istanbul Twist
Surf (Instrumental)
Heavy and thick, over compressed fuzz guitar, and much more riff than song. The lack of variation is not overcome by the volume.
Who Goes There?
Surf (Instrumental)
Heavy guitar tone and minimal riffology. "Who Goes There?" is just not interesting at all.
