Agent Orange - Bitchin' Summerdotdotdotdot
artworkThis is the first surf punk 12 inch, the first time the two forms crossed paths in the form of an intentionally surf format. Mike Palm was just making music his way. He was surprised to be labeled surf punk. They were just a band playing aggressive surf. This is an essential vinyl issue.
Picks: Pipeline (extended mix), Miserlou, Mr. Moto.

Track by Track Review

Pipeline (extended mix) dotdotdotdotdot
Skate & Surf Punk (Instrumental)

There's plenty of pounding drums and wailing super compressed guitar on this most classic surf punk track of all. Before there was such a thing, Mike Palm and company were straining surf instros through their signature proto-surf-punk sound. Unbelievably strong, and entirely durable. This is the Bitchin' Summer extended edit. It's interesting that there is yet to be a CD release of the actual session as issued on the 7 inch single.

Miserlou dotdotdotdot
Skate & Surf Punk (Instrumental)

Agent Orange's classic chunky sound shreds and sustains it's way through the consummate surf song. Lots of energy, and that early eighties super compressed playing style. Great track

Mr. Moto. dotdotdotdot
Skate & Surf Punk (Instrumental)

The Belairs classic rehashed into the formula only Agent Orange has achieved, even after all these years.
